Acrylic Painting is fun and versatile. You don’t have to be an expert to work with acrylics. It may be applied to a number of surfaces and although prepping the surface can be done it can also be “oops” forgotten about.

Acrylic painting:

  • is used for detailed portraits to abstract textured projects.
  • may use thinned or thickened paint.
  • may have objects embedded in it.
  • can be applied to almost any surface
  • dries very quickly, unless an additive is used to slow drying .
  • is easily cleaned up with water when still wet but is water resistant and permanent when dried.

There is the free hand, expressive type of acrylic painting though I appreciate the satisfying results you can get from the more technique driven forms such as in Folk Art style.  You can create an abstract piece, a landscape or a detailed portrait with this medium.

I had an amazing teacher who did not emphasize technique so much as self expression. The first time we came to his class with our modest little offerings he was supportive but kept pushing us to use bigger canvases. Our acrylic paintings kept getting bigger and bolder as he built our confidence with his never lose attitude. He expanded our imaginations and made creative expression fun.  That is the feeling that I would like to pass on to you.

The journey of acrylic painting is what I most relish. When I can drop into my acrylic painting project, time can just disappear. Those are the times I am most satisfied with my work and those are the paintings that usually spark most interest from viewers.

But of course there are more practical things like supplies and techniques that can be used to enhance our acrylic painting results. Quality items at reasonable prices are important so you can relax into your painting without worrying about. ‘Whether you can afford to use all that blue’.

You will love acrylic painting.
